A beginning

I finally made it to the pool yesterday morning.  It was a nice feeling to get off my butt and start doing something about my weight.  I only swam about 150 yards because I wanted to take it easy and see how my shoulder would hold up.  I injured it a few years ago and don’t want to injure it again.    Yesterday, we went fishing and I probably walked 4 miles taking kids from the lake to the bathroom, so that’s got to help a little in the exercise department.

So as of July 27, 2007, my weight is 275 pounds, and my goal is to get to 200 pounds.

On the food front, I’m working on limiting how much soda I drink.   This is a big factor to my weight because I average about 120-150 ounces of soda a day.  I don’t trust ‘diets’ because I believe that 99% of them are frauds.  Instead, I’m just trying to eat healthier and cut out or reduce stuff that’s obviously bad for me.   Gatorade is my new best friend because it has about 1/3 the calories of Coke and no bubbles, but it has enough sugar in it to help trick my brain into thinking it’s having enough soda.  Of course, I’m starting to drink water more often, but I can’t stand the taste of it unless it’s ice cold.  I think that I’ve trained my brain to expect Coke or Pepsi instead of water.  It’s going to take some rewiring to get that one straightened out.

I’m totally addicted to caffeine, so my plan is to keep drinking caffeinated beverages along with Gatorade to keep the headaches and other withdrawal symptoms to a minimum while slowly weaning myself off of them completely.  It’ll be a great day when I’m able to go a full day without a Coke and not suffer from a headache or drowsiness because of it.

I should probably create a page as a sort of fitness log; however, I feel really good about swimming today. I did 8 laps (about 400 yards), 30 water pull-ups, and my shoulder feels fine. :)

I’m the same way with my coffee — gotta have it, lots of it, and sweet and milky. Dangerous for someone trying to “cut back”.
I have decided to take the stance of “everything in moderation” and see if that doesn’t make a difference.

I’ve been pretty good with caffeine this week. I’ve only had about 1/3 of the soda that I normally drink. Of course, that means that I’ve had a lot of gatorade, but overall, I think I’m coming out ahead. My weight is exactly the same as it was on Friday, but I’m not worried. My body is probably somewhat in shock since I’m actually exercising and eating healthier.

Stop whining about what you want and start thinking about what your body needs… when i looked at myself at 200lbs at 16 i thought “wow, this is mad I have to end this now!” and so I went about it. the next day i cut off all drinks but water( i used to live on coke cola) . and went to the shop that day and bought a ton of fruit. also I started taking vitaims and doing exercises… i have asthma so its hard but i get about it. when i started i SUCKED for like a month but if you keep going then you will get there, i thought about it like this: “if i think about the (hoping i will live this long) 90+ years i will live, what is 6 months going to hurt?” its been 2 months and im still at it. and its working out great. all you need to do is run in the mornings or at night and do skipping/swimming and a few push ups and sit ups… a day. in no time you will lose wieght (when i say no time i mean a month or two). and all this **** about “oh well its harder to lose weight for some more than others” is aload of crap all you need is will-power (wanting to do it) so i hope that you guys will stop being so lazy about “oh well i need my coffee and “i had my 1/3 of cola” you dont need you want it because your being greedy. by the way alittle headache and sleepless nights didnt hurt anyone. sort it out guys…

Good advice, Jackdaknife. You’re right, of course, and I have been quite lazy for a few months and haven’t done much in the way of excersize.
